The story

About this journey

Bhutan teaches you to slow down before you arrive. The flight in is one of the longest approaches in the world, and the country waits for you with the same patience.

What we walk into

Eight days of waking with the bells of small monasteries, walking forested ridges between Paro and Punakha, sharing rice and butter tea with families who still measure time by harvests. Most of the day, we keep silence — not as a discipline imposed, but as an offered companion.

Why silence here

Bhutanese culture holds quiet as a form of respect. Walking without speaking, with monks who have done it for decades, you come to understand silence as a place rather than an absence.

Who this is for

Travellers who are comfortable on long walking days (12–18 km), who can sit with discomfort, who want a journey that asks more of them than it gives back at first.

Why slow

Travira makes a small number of offerings, with small groups and long timescales. Slow, for us, is not a marketing word. It is the only honest way we know to do this — to give a thing enough room to change you.
