The story

About this place

Whispering Pines sits at 8,400 feet in the foothills west of Boulder, Colorado. Six cabins around a central lodge, joined by a stone path through Ponderosa pines. The lodge has a sauna, a long pine table that seats fourteen, a meditation hall with a single round window, and a kitchen that runs on a gas stove and quiet conversation.

We host small groups — yoga teacher trainings, writing retreats, contemplative communities. The cabins are simple: a bed, a wool blanket, a wood-burning stove, a writing desk. No television. Phone reception is patchy. That is on purpose.

Mornings are cold. Days are long and slow. Evenings around the fire are where the trip turns into something else.

Brought twelve people up for a writing retreat in March. The cook was steady, the cabins quiet, and the meditation hall has the kind of acoustics that make group silence feel like a single body.

The altitude was real for the first day, then everything settled. Cold mornings, hot tub at sunset, no phone reception in the cabins — exactly what we needed.

Why slow

Travira makes a small number of offerings, with small groups and long timescales. Slow, for us, is not a marketing word. It is the only honest way we know to do this — to give a thing enough room to change you.
